Madrona Labs Sumu is officially out

A few months ago I reviewed Madrona Labs’ Sumu while it was in public beta, a unique and interesting additive synth that allows you to import samples as partial maps. A couple features have been added since my previous review, which I have updated as of the time of publishing this post, you can find that review here. In this official release update, Madrona Labs have added a tonal tilt control to the partial section, and a shape control, which blends between even and odd partials.

More interestingly is the addition LFOs to every control, by right clicking any control, you can open up and map an LFO to said control. You get the standard shapes, noise, and the ability to tempo sync, but not a whole lot else. However simple these LFOs are though, they are an incredible addition, giving much needed motion to patches and expanding Sumu’s capabilities, especially since each control can be assigned its own unique LFO.

One quick tip, you’ll want to right click the parameter value when assigning an LFO, otherwise you will adjust the target control as well.

You can pick up Sumu from Madrona Labs’ website: https://madronalabs.com/products/sumu
